Money is rotating out of tech into defense; healthcare is the leading sector with the cleanest chart and desk support. The ETF is the vehicle because no single name is clearly better and it avoids single-stock earnings.
A failed breakout: the gap fills and XLV drops back into the 165-176 range. The counts don't support it yet (0 step-down highs, rising RS, 1 ceiling test), but the breakout volume was light and Friday closed weak.
Daily: a clean gap over the 176.59 August high on Oct 15, then two small bars holding above it; volume on the breakout was ordinary, not a surge. Hourly: Friday faded from 178.86 to 176.7 and closed near the low but above Thursday's 176.22 low. Supply sits at 178.86.
Independent read of XLV_D/_60 (server PNG) plus TradingView (1Y daily + 1h) agrees with the card: zero step-down highs since the Aug 176.59 peak (one clean advance, then an Oct 15 gap through it), XLV/SPY ratio rising to a multi-month high, and only ~2 tests of the 178.86 area in 10 sessions (Thu high + Fri's touch before fading) — nowhere near a coil. BULL READ SURVIVES. The strongest evidence beyond the card's own text: Friday was one of the worst tape days of the year for tech (Nasdaq -2.15%, QQQ -2.77%, SMH's 9th straight down day — longest semis losing streak in 25 years per Fast Money) and SPY itself broke below its 20- and 50-day SMAs, yet XLV fell only -0.27% and held above both the breakout pivot and Thursday's low — real relative-strength confirmation of the rotation, not a quiet drift. Caveat: Friday's 176.71 close sits only 9 cents above Thursday's low/session POC (176.22) and 12 cents above the breakout level — a marginal hold, so the 178.95 breakout tranche still needs to clear a level tested twice without resolution; no change made given the limit tranche (174.50) already covers the alternative. Theme comparison: energy (XLE) has the single strongest chart on the board (zero step-down highs, closed 9 cents from its own 68.30 trigger) but stays correctly an alternate — R:R 1.73:1 is flagged under 2:1 and the move is headline-driven (Hormuz/Brent $110); LLY carries 2.8% of overhead ATH supply and a flagged 1.4:1 R:R. No IN-theme instrument beats XLV's own setup. Event gate independently re-verified: FOMC confirmed Oct 27-28 (outside the window, which correctly closes Fri Oct 23's close); Eli Lilly's own Q3 earnings confirmed Oct 29 (outside the window, as the LLY alternate note already assumed); ExxonMobil's Q3 earnings is now company-confirmed for Oct 30, not Oct 23 as the card hedged — this loosens, not tightens, the XLE alternate's cancel date but doesn't change its flagged-R:R alternate status. NYSE calendar confirmed clean Oct 19-23 — no holiday; Monday Oct 19 is the first trade day. No changes to entry, levels, or size; R:R at the hard stop (2.12:1) already clears the 2:1 floor.
HOLD — XLV 110 sh ~178.95 Roth (Week 7 tranche 1, filled per the bars Tue 10/20; fill UNCONFIRMED; 73 sh if Thursday's T1 scale-out of 37 was taken — Thursday opened ~183.1 above T1 183.50 per the hourly, so that sale would have printed at the open). Nothing to place: no card exists for the week of 10/26 (newest week still 2026-10-19), the Week 7 entry window closed 10/23, and one position max. Chart: XLV_D (bar 10/29) printed a new high 184.85 above the 10/22 182.25 peak and closed 184.04 (+2.40%) on ~15M, the largest bar since August, 5.3% over SMA20 174.76; the lower-high / base-test sequence of 10/23–10/28 resolved UP, no structure kill; XLV/SPY ratio at a new 6-month high. XLV_60: Thursday gapped open ~183.1 over the 181.28 PDH, high 184.85 in the first hour, held 182.9–184.0 above session VWAP all day, closed 184.05 — a 181.28–182.10 gap is now the base under the position. Chart ruling
bull read survives — XLV_D (bar 10/29): labeled swing highs 168.53 / 176.59 / 171.87, lows 160.73 / 165.11 / 165.19; Thursday a gap-up bar to a new high 184.85 over the 10/22 182.25 peak, close 184.04 on ~15M (largest volume since August), 5.3% over SMA20 174.76; the 10/23–10/28 step-down highs (180.74 / 181.17 / 179.72 / 181.28) and the 177.07–178.71 base tests resolved UP — no lower high, no third base test, no structure kill; XLV/SPY ratio rising over 20 sessions to a new 6-month high; Oct 15 gap 173.99–175.27 still 0.74% open. XLV_60: gap open ~183.1 over PDH 181.28, first-hour high 184.85, held above VWAP all session, closed 184.05; new gap 181.28–182.10 under the position; ceiling tests in 10 sessions: 182.25 Thu 10/22, 181.17 Mon, 181.28 Wed, then cleared Thu. SPY_D (bar 10/29): swing highs 775.30 / 775.14 / 781.62, lows 759.48 / 749.60 / 758.79; closed 769.36 under SMA20 771.16, above SMA50 767.63; pre-market -0.99%. Ruling: bull read survives — agrees with the card's bear_case (failed breakout: not printing) and the 10/18 Sunday review; bear points are extension (7.0% over SMA20 pre-market) and short gamma, which argue for the breakeven stop at +5%, not an exit.
Verdict: GO tranche 1 (BUY STOP-LIMIT 178.95 / 179.84, 110 sh Roth, through Fri 10/23); HOLD OFF tranche 2 (174.50 limit) today — pre-market 175.59 inside the Oct 15 gap under the 176.59 breakout line while semis bounce and the weekend wire (Fundstrat, FX Evolution) calls a tech dip-buy; invalidation 173.50 / hard 171.40 / T1 183.50 / T2 188. OPEN — interim. Theme right: XLV +1.45% vs SPY -0.43%. Per the bars, XLV tranche 1 (buy-stop 178.95) filled Tue Oct 20 and closed Friday at 179.28 (+0.2%); the 174.50 limit never filled. XLV is 5.8 points above the 173.50 invalidation close, 7.9 above the 171.40 hard stop, 4.2 under T1 183.50. Grade waits for the exit.
XLV broke out Tue, made a new high 182.25 Thu (+1.3% while SPY fell 1.2%), then gave back to 179.28 Friday, closing on the 178.95 prior-day low. Structure intact (higher lows, ratio near a 6-month high), label and bear read held; breakout volume stayed light.
SPY 763.25 · VIX 19.99 · STRONG_SHORT_GAMMA (net GEX -4.7, spot 1.4% below zero gamma)
Weak breadth and short gamma: low-end sizing. Last week's ABBV 50-share alternate may be open (fill unconfirmed); if so, it counts as this week's position and the slate is only a replacement.

| 2026-10-12 | ABBV | B — breakout/continuation (first retest); screen flag: extended (RSI 71.2) | 271.50 | Theme right, entry missed: XLV +3.45% and ABBV +3.24% vs SPY -1.97% (prior close to Friday close), but the 271.50 limit never filled (week low 273.70 on Tue). Per the bars the flagged 50-sh alternate (stop 281.68 / limit 283.09) likely filled Tue near 283.09 after opening 283.29; worth about +0.8% at Friday's 285.42. Jason's fills UNKNOWN. | B |
| 2026-10-05 | No trade | B — breakout retest (relabeled from B breakout/continuation) | NO-TRADE on the primary per the bars: the NVDA 228.00 limit never traded (week low 229.11 Fri; Thu low 229.85); no close under 226.90; T1/T2 not printed (week high 243.37 Tue). NVDA 233.95 -> 229.28 = -2.00% vs SPY +1.16%, SMH -4.32%. The breakout confirmed Mon (close 238.90 on 127.2M) then failed Thu (close 230.48 on 118.7M, back under the 232.3-233.2 ceiling). ALT ENTRY per the bars: Monday's close met the breakout condition (>237.88 on >110M); a Tue stop-limit (stop ~239.38 / limit ~240.57) would have filled (Tue range 238.93-243.37) and Thursday's 229.85 low traded through its 232.20 hard stop = about -$711 on 85 sh, the planned loss. Fills UNKNOWN - book file (as_of 9/19) shows no NVDA. | C | |
| 2026-09-28 | SMH | B — breakout/continuation (ETF row carries no bucket; relabeled from the chart: last week's 573–600 coil resolved up 9/21 and held four sessions) | 597.50 | OPEN — interim, per the bars: the 597.50 limit traded Mon 9/28 (low 591.92, the GO day); no close under 592, hard 586.50 untouched; T1 626 printed Fri 10/2 (gap to 628.55–636.25, close 630.60 = +5.54% from entry, +5% breakeven trigger 627.38 hit); T2 648 not printed. AMD 559.82 -> 630.59 = +12.64% vs SPY 761.69 -> 771.35 = +1.27%; SMH +5.86%, SOXX +7.43%. Fills UNKNOWN - book shows no card position (AMD 20 @ 583.33 Roth is the pre-existing ai-semi lot, not the card). Held Week-2 AAPL 60 @ 333.50 Roth: OPEN, 341.07 close (+2.27%), week high 345.34 (T1 344.57 printed 9/22, not held), low 334.30 above the 335 ceiling on a close basis and the 328 invalidation; hard 319 GTC. Thesis right (semis IN, AMD the resolved chart), execution flawed: a limit 5.2% under the close in a nine-up-day name with a rising ratio, no buy-stop variant (rejected at 1.0:1 to T1 though 1.7:1 to T2) = a card designed not to fill. | B | |
| 2026-09-14 | AAPL | B (breakout/continuation; screen 9/16: within 1.1% of the 20d high, RS20 +9.0, RS60 +10.6, RSI 62, not extended) | 333.50 | OPEN — interim. Close 336.13 = +0.79% vs entry, above the 335 ceiling for a second day; invalidation 328 / hard stop 319 never threatened (week low 328.35 on 9/15, before the card); T1 344.57 / T2 358 not printed (week high 338.49). AAPL week +1.16% (332.27 → 336.13) vs SPY −0.34% (764.29 → 761.69); QQQ +0.90%, XLK +1.03%. Fills UNKNOWN — book file still as_of 9/8, no AAPL. Falsifier watch: Friday was red on the month's biggest volume but closed in the top 60% of its range above 335 — not a reversal, but the first warning bar. Actual: BUY 50 @ 207.69 Roth 9/8 (confirmed on the card), SOLD 50 Fri 9/11 on the chart read — exit price UNKNOWN, confirm (approx 205-206 = roughly -$85 to -$135).
